Physics is taught in the College at a number of stages:
Years 8 and 9:
Physics is part of general science which is taught by one teacher, five periods per week in year 8 and four periods per week in year 9.
Year 10:
Physics is taught by a specialist Physics teacher two periods per week. The pupils are thus best prepared for the Key Stage 3 Science examination.
Years 11 and 12:
There are many choices of science course, all leading to examinations offered by CCEA (The Northern Ireland Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment):
Double award science is taught in ten periods per week. That time is split up between departments and Physics gets either three or four periods per week. In that time, Physics is taught by specialists.
Students may choose to study Physics which is taught in five periods per week and may also combine this with Biology and/or Chemistry which is also allocated five periods per week. All science courses at Key Stage 4 are taught by specialists.
Years 13 and 14.
Physics is taught by specialist teachers, 9 periods per week in year 13 and 9 periods per week in year 14. The course follows the syllabus provided by CCEA.
