    The Medical room in the College is located on level 2, to the right of reception. This facility consists of a fully equipped waiting area and a treatment room. The medical department is the responsibility of Mrs Murphy the college nurse.

The College nurse runs the unit as a drop in unit where students can call in anytime. Responsibilities of the school nurse include

·        Dealing with sick and injured pupils.

·        Catering for the needs of students with specific diagnosed conditions.

·        Liaising with members of staff re-specific conditions and management of same.

·        Administration and storage of prescribed medications.

·        Health education and promotion in the classroom setting i.e. Nut Allergy, Swine Flu, Personal Hygiene and other topical material.

·        Liaising with the counselling team within the college.

·        Co ordination of statutory health programmes and liaising with the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust.

Important To Eat A Healthy Breakfast

  • Wholegrain Cereal
  • Wholegrain Toast
  • Porridge
  • Eggs
  • Fruit Juice  

Healthy Lunch Box

  • Include salad in sandwiches
  • Use Wholemeal or Multigrain Bread
  • Avoid saturated fat e.g. butter, full fat mayo/dressings
  • Fruit
  • Cereal Bars
  • Yogurt

Healthy Snacks

  • Fruit
  • Low Fat Crisps  

Good Fluid Intake

  • No fizzy drinks
  • Water or Flavoured Water 

N.B Tap water is just as good as bottled and more environmentally friendly.  

Good Personal Hygiene

  • Shower/Bath Regularly
  • Keep uniform clean and presentable.
  • Avoid wearing make-up
  • Always use paper tissues when sneezing or coughing.

Hand Washing

  • Prevents the spread of infection both at home and school
  • Wash hands thoroughly, using soap and warm water
  • Keep nails short and clean
