Homeworks are set to:
· develop the habit of independent study
· reinforce and extend work that has been carried out in class · provide an indication of progress being made and to aid assessment TIME It is expected that students should spend a reasonable amount of time on homework and private study each evening. RECOMMENDED MINIMUM TIME Year 8 - 1 hour and 30 minutes Year 9 - 2 hours Year 10 - 2 hours and 30 minutes Year 11 - 3 hours Year 12 - 3 hours SIXTH FORM Generally students in the Upper School should undertake a minimum of 15 HOURS per week of home study. Initiative should be encouraged and Sixth Former students should prepare a detailed home study plan to include homework, research and revision.
ALL STUDENTS SHOULD NOTE THAT WHEN HOMEWORKS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED THE REMAINING TIME SHOULD BE DEVOTED TO STUDY/REVISION. TYPES OF HOMEWORK The amount and nature of homework will vary from subject to subject. Types of homework may include: reading, essays, project work, translation, aural work designing, revision, learning, summarising and researching. Some Homeworks may be set for the next lesson, others such as project work, designing, essays and research may be given well in advance of a stated deadline thus encouraging good study habits and self-discipline. ORGANISATION OF HOMEWORK Each student is given the College Homework Policy Diary at the beginning of the year to record details of Homeworks and to ensure that deadlines are met. The homework diaries for Years 8 to 12 may be inspected at regular intervals by Subject Teachers, Tutors, Heads of Year / Faculty and Heads of School. The following practices must be observed by all students in the College: · date to be entered at the top of each page · all entries to be made in ink · homework diaries must be kept neat and tidy · parents of students in Years 8 to 12 should sign homework diaries at the end of each week
