| I am delighted to have the opportunity to welcome you to the College’s website. Through it I am confident that you will gain a sense of the happy, busy, disciplined and successful environment in which our boys and girls are able to develop and mature. Whilst academic excellence is extremely important to us, equally so are development of character, talent and independence, and we set great store by these core values. Through sport, drama, music and many other extra curricular activities, we create an environment in which these values can be promoted and sustained, and it is this that makes Our Lady and St Patrick’s College such an exciting place to be. We seek to develop the whole person, to draw out the individual’s talents and interests and to open doors for the future. |
Our Lady and St Patrick's College, Knock is a Diocesan Catholic Co-educational Voluntary Grammar School (Category A) catering for over 1,260 students aged between 11-19 years of age. The College was founded in September 1985 with the fusion of the Sacred Heart of Mary Grammar School, Holywood, Co. Down and St Patrick's College, Knock. It is located in its own spacious grounds in the Cherryvalley district of Belfast with a panoramic view of the city. The school is thoughtfully designed and is surrounded by impressive sports and recreational facilities. Students come to the College from a wide area covering South and East Belfast, North Down and Ards. As students of Our Lady and St Patrick's College, Knock, they are all assured access to a comprehensive, progressive curriculum and a variety of creative, sporting, and cultural activities. We are very aware that young people have varied needs and gifts and our aim is to meet the former whilst helping them develop the latter. They need personal support as well as a firm academic framework for scholarship; encouragement to enjoy their leisure and the worlds of art, culture and sport, as well as the challenge of intellectual discipline; the opportunity not only to succeed themselves but also to serve and perhaps to lead. The school is forward thinking, and we encourage our students to challenge themselves and to accept the opportunities on offer to them, to excel and enjoy their pursuits and to be confident, responsible and articulate individuals. We emphasise traditional standards of uniform, good manners, discipline and respect whilst providing a very relevant and modern education which will enable our students to succeed in the workplace and society of the twenty-first century.
We hope that the pages which follow will give you a useful insight into our school. I consider myself privileged to be Principal during one of the most exciting periods in the College's history, and I very much hope that what you learn from our website will prompt you to arrange a visit to the school. My colleagues and I shall be delighted to welcome you and give you an opportunity to sample life in our busy community and so gain a real feel for the school's quality and atmosphere. More importantly, you will be able to meet our students, one or two of whom will show you around the school. Yours sincerely Dermot G Mullan Principal |
