The Technology & Design Department is situated in a modern purpose-built complex.Phase 1 of the complex was finished in September 1989. It was designed on an industrial building model and as a pilot scheme for the Province, it influenced the Department of Education Building Guidelines which set out the requirements for such buildings across Northern Ireland. The final phase was completed in September 1993. The rooms in the Technology centre do not conform to the traditional layout expected in classrooms. Rather the environment is purely industrial with pentagonal and hexagonal sided classrooms. The centre, one of the most modern of its type in Northern Ireland is designed to meet the demands and challenges of the Northern Ireland Curriculum relating to Technology & Design.
The Technology Centre accommodation comprises: 3 manufacturing rooms, 2 systems rooms, a double planning room/CAE suite (Computer Aided Engineering) associated storage areas and an exhibition area equipped to a very high standard.
ICT Hardware consists of 30 PCs (Pentiums) located in the 2 systems rooms, the double planning room and the teachers store room which are internally networked. A wide range of software is available to pupils at all levels in the development of products and systems.
There is also a C2K PC, a multi media projector, scanners, a digital camera and a range of printers and other peripheral equipment within the department.
