Key Stage 3

Drama at Key Stage 3 aims primarily at helping the students develop personal and communication skills. They are encouraged to become involved with others, to discuss, experiment, problem-solve and perform. Students are introduced to basic acting, design and directorial techniques. The Junior Drama Festival provides an opportunity for each year group to display these skills and to compete for its year cup.

Key Stage 4

The College offers students the option to study Drama at G.C.S.E. The course encourages an awareness of self and mutual respect in a dramatic context and promotes appreciation and enjoyment of the drama process. Integral to the course is an exploration and understanding of dramatic texts.

Post 16

Students may choose to study Drama and Theatre Studies at ‘AS’ Level and at 'A' Level. The course provides an opportunity to study plays from the point of view of a director, designer, performer and critic. It enables students to acquire a greater knowledge and understanding of the language of drama and theatre as well as to develop their performing and analytical skills.

This qualification can be used as part of the entry requirement into other subject areas and by those wishing to pursue any career that involves communication and people-orientated skills.

Extra-curricular

The College has long enjoyed the reputation of being a centre of dramatic excellence. We view the College production as a whole school celebration of our talents and choose material that both enables and challenges our students. Previous productions include "As You Like It", "The Crucible", "Fiddler on the Roof", "The Mikado", “Kiss Me Kate” and “Dancing at Lughnasa “

The most recent production was “The Boyfriend”.
